El Maguey is the first Topeka franchise of a regional restaurant chain, owned by Juan Jasso and Martin Leon and set to open this spring.

The bar area has several TV screens and a long, curved bar counter for patrons to sit down and enjoy a beer or margarita. “We want people to come in and eat, watch their favorite games and just feel at home,” Jasso said.

El Azteca Club at S.E. 6th and Lake offers traditional and contemporary Latin music. In 1997, Jorge Munoz and his family purchased the building and started rennovating the place. The food menu features dishes like caldo de camaron (shrimp soup), menudo (beef tripe), grilled steak and onions, and the standard tacos, burritos, enchiladas, Mexican rice, chicken, stuffed peppers, quesadillas, salads and desserts.
