6th Street Back Door

This is a classic neighborhood bar, off the beaten path, established around 1970. Patrons come here on a regular basis for a cold beer, to share stories with friends or to watch a sports game on the TV.

Annie's Place

4014 SW Gage Center Drive, Topeka

Annie's Place is an American grill that was voted No. 1 hamburger in Topeka by Best of Topeka. The restaurant also serves steaks, chicken and fish. Drinks are in bottles, nothing on tap. Annie's Place was founded in 1986. Jim and Lisa Haskell bought it in 1990.

Red Robin

6230 S.W. 6th, Topeka

For a place that serves up gourmet burgers it should come as no surprise that Red Robin pours a lot of beers from the eight it keeps chilled on tap. Red Robin also mixes a fine margarita -- a top seller for the restaurant bar. Red Robin is a family joint, so the crowd stays tame. It's a fine place to catch a drink before a movie at the neighboring theater.

Outback Steakhouse

5826 SW 21st St., Topeka

You could take advantage of call-ahead seating, but then you might cut short a trip to the Outback bar. It serves wine, martinis, premium liquors and keeps six beers on tap, plus bottled domestic and imports. Or try one of the special cocktails, including the frosty Wallaby Darned.

Break Room

911 S. Kansas Ave, Topeka

A quirky little place in a cool refurbished downtown storefront where you can buy a bottle of beer, hot dog, espresso drink, ice cream and grilled panini -- among other things. There's a pool table, 15-foot screen projection TV, wireless internet and a small convenience store. As the place's name implies, it's a great spot to escape work for a few minutes. (Or more!)

Applebee's Grill & Bar

5928 S.W. 17th St, Topeka

Applebee's is a laid-back, casual grill and bar, featuring full line of cocktails, beer and food. The bar includes eight beers on tap, two longtime bartenders and numerous regulars who have their names on plaques overhead.

Chilis Grill & Bar

This well-known bar and grill entices customers with a family-friendly, fun atmosphere. The casual bar features three flatscreen TVs and a 10 percent military discount. Don't leave without sampling the food with a Southwest flair.

Pigskin's Sports Bar

2833 SW 29th St, Topeka

Boss Hawg's added Pigskin's next door in 2003 as a separate bar but with same great food. It has a sports decor with wood furniture, lots of character, several beers on tap and smoking. It's a great place to watch a game -- and check out the half-price menu from 10 p.m. to midnight. "Beer, sports and barbecue go together real well," the late owner Hank Lumpkin once said.

Club Orleans

8249 SW 10th Ave, Topeka

On March 23, 2012, Club Orleans became an after hours gentlemen's club where patrons bring their own alcohol and enjoy adult entertainment with beautiful ladies from 1:30 a.m. until 5 a.m. in the morning. In addition to the entertainment, there will be an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.
