El Mezcal Restaurant No. 4

511 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka

Although its main focus is food, El Mezcal No. 4 offers margaritas, both Mexican and domestic beers and some wine. Dash in for a fast-service lunch or enjoy a relaxed dinner, perhaps on the patio when the weather warms. There are daily drink, lunch and dinner specials. And don't forget: El Mezcal III is at 5301 S.W. 21st, and there are two El Mezcals in Lawrence.

El Mezcal III

5301 S.W. 21st, Topeka

Margarita lovers have spoken, and their choice is El Mezcal III. Of course, it doesn't hurt that margaritas are 99 cents on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the food - especially the cheese dip - is irresistible. Catch the big game on TV in the bar area and check out the bottled beer specials and draft beers. And don't forget: El Mezcal No. 4 is at 511 S.W. Topeka Blvd.

Annie's Place

4014 SW Gage Center Drive, Topeka

Annie's Place is an American grill that was voted No. 1 hamburger in Topeka by Best of Topeka. The restaurant also serves steaks, chicken and fish. Drinks are in bottles, nothing on tap. Annie's Place was founded in 1986. Jim and Lisa Haskell bought it in 1990.

The Celtic Fox

118 S.W. 8th, Topeka

Fancy a pint? Find a bit of Ireland in this cool limestone storefront in downtown Topeka. This bar serves all the great Irish beers -- Smithwicks, Harp and Guinness -- from a long wood bar. Fill your belly with Irish classics like shepherd’s pie or a Reuben sandwich. The Fox draws a varied crowd, from area regulars to state lawmakers. It also books parties. (updated: 3.10.12)

Texas Roadhouse

5901 S.W. Huntoon, Topeka

Come for the main attraction -- hand-cut steaks and tender rib meat that falls off the bone -- and wash it down with something from the full-service bar. Among the offerings are five ice-cold beers on tap and margaritas. Munch on peanuts while you wait and toss the shells on the floor, but leave room for the meat as well as fresh-baked bread and made-from-scratch sides.

Sakura Restaurant

5632 S.W. 29th St., Topeka

For anyone who has wanted to try Japanese sake (a rice wine) or any other Japanese drink, go here. Of course, you might just love the sushi or something from the grill, but the bar also serves a variety of Japanese drinks. Look at the menu for descriptions. Sakura has a full bar, but the bar area is small -- just five chairs to pull up -- so you might want to plan on ordering drinks with dinner.

Below the Row at RowHouse Restaurant

515 S.W. Van Buren, Topeka

Enter this ultra-chic sophisticated bar through red velvet curtains. There's space for 12, making it a cozy spot for drinks for two or guests waiting for tables at the upscale restaurant above. Like the rest of the RowHouse, the bar retains the old home's charm with an old fireplace, but it mixes in a contemporary, cool vibe. A great place for good wine or ask about the specialty cocktails.

Red Robin

6230 S.W. 6th, Topeka

For a place that serves up gourmet burgers it should come as no surprise that Red Robin pours a lot of beers from the eight it keeps chilled on tap. Red Robin also mixes a fine margarita -- a top seller for the restaurant bar. Red Robin is a family joint, so the crowd stays tame. It's a fine place to catch a drink before a movie at the neighboring theater.

Red Lobster Restaurant

2011 S.W. Wanamaker Road, Topeka

Certainly, this is the place to go for seafood, but Red Lobster also serves a surprising array of specialty drinks. In particular, check out the variety of coladas, including a sunset passion colada. If margaritas float your boat, ask about the variety of flavored and even top-shelf offerings. They'll mix just about anything you want, pour you a beer and offer an extensive selection of wines.
